Gippsland Lakes Bird Habitat Restoration

coastal-consultant

Congrats to Gippsland Ports, and the many partner agencies, for their win at the 2018 Victorian Coastal Awards for the Gippsland Lakes Bird Habitat Restoration project.  This was as much a project about collaboration as it was about conservation.

I was fortunate to play a role in this project in my time with Gippsland Ports in collaboration with Parks Victoria, DELWP, Birdlife East Gippsland, and the Nungurner Landcare Group.

As noted by the Chair of Gippsland Ports:

“We have together achieved the ultimate success environmentally sustainable channel dredging to provide safer navigation for recreational boaters, the restoration and extension of habitat for our swans, pelicans, waders and migratory terns and the forging of new partnerships between the government and community sectors”.

For a brief video that illustrates the successful outcomes of this project please watch video at link below prepared by Martin Richardson. Some amazing footage!
